Located in the vibrant neighborhood of Watthana, Bangkok, Jok Ruam Jai is an authentic Thai restaurant that masterfully serves classic Thai comfort food with a particular spotlight on their beloved jok—the traditional Thai rice porridge. This local gem, nestled at 7, 7/4 Soi Sukhumvit 23 near the bustling ASOK BTS station, offers a warm retreat for both early birds craving a hearty breakfast and night owls hunting for a satisfying late-night meal, open until 3 AM.
Stepping into Jok Ruam Jai, you’re immediately embraced by a sense of homely simplicity — the kind that hints at generational recipes passed down since 1957. The aroma of simmering broth and freshly cooked rice porridge is intoxicating, setting the stage for a truly comforting culinary experience. The restaurant's ambiance feels genuine and inviting, reminiscent of a cozy local shophouse where every dish is crafted with care and tradition.
The star of the menu is undoubtedly the jok. Customers repeatedly praise its silky-smooth texture and deep, savory richness. Topped with tender pork, a delicately soft-boiled egg, fresh ginger, and scallions, it delivers a perfect balance of flavors that wraps you in warmth from the very first spoonful. One reviewer described it as “pure heaven in a bowl,” and it’s easy to understand why this dish resonates so deeply with locals and visitors alike.
Beyond the porridge, Jok Ruam Jai offers other Thai classics that have captivated taste buds. The chicken and tofu Pad Thai bursts with layers of flavor—sweet, salty, and slightly tangy—that dance on the palate, while the basil chicken with rice stands out for its fragrant, herby spice, which the staff generously tailor to your preferred level of heat. Meat lovers are not to miss the unforgettable pork knuckle rice, meltingly tender with succulent fats that add a luxurious mouthfeel, perfectly paired with a cold beer for night-time diners seeking a hearty meal after hours.
Although some guests note the prices are a touch higher than typical local spots, especially for the congee, many agree the quality and authentic experience justify the value. The staff’s friendly, accommodating nature only adds to the appeal, making each visit feel like being welcomed into a friend’s home kitchen.
Whether you’re setting out to indulge in a traditional Bangkok breakfast, anticipating a flavorful late-night snack, or simply yearning for well-crafted Thai dishes that celebrate rich heritage and bold flavors, Jok Ruam Jai stands out as a must-visit destination. For those exploring the energetic Sukhumvit area, this restaurant offers not only a taste of authentic Thai cuisine but also a memorable, heartfelt dining experience that lingers long after the last bite.

Great experience! Friendly staff! We got a chicken and tofu Pad Thai that was super flavourful and a basil chicken with rice that was also tasty and they were very accommodating when I asked for no spice :)

It is a “green bowl” restaurant, noted for good taste, and my wife took me here. Very local reato with such scent. We had a must-try congee for breakfast and it was well salted and good. I didn’t try other must-try ao we’ll come back for it to better rate the taste.

If you need food after 10pm when most of the restaurants are closed, this is the place near ASOK BTS train station. The pork knuckle rice is just delicious and the fats melt into your mouth. Run by a young couple...saw the sign says since 1957...must be generational business. Food is great, beer is cold and price is really reasonable at this late hour. Strongly recommend those staying around ASOK BTS.

A local shophouse in the Asok area. The congee tastes average, and the price is a bit high. I went there with friend (2people) 2 congee, 1 water bottleafter, 1 Chrysanthemum tea and 1 spring rolls. After bill price is 280 baht.

If you’re in Bangkok and looking for a late-night bite or a classic breakfast spot, Jok Ruam Jai is worth checking out. Located not far from the bar area, it’s a convenient place to grab some food after a night out, especially since they’re open until 3 AM. I came here in the morning and tried their famous porridge (jok)—a well-known breakfast dish in Bangkok. It was okay; warm, comforting, and quite standard. Not mind-blowing, but definitely filling. I also ordered the seafood Pad Thai, but to be honest, I didn’t really enjoy it. The flavor just didn’t hit the mark for me—maybe a bit too flat or lacking the punch I expected. On the other hand, the pork dish I tried was actually quite good—chewy, savory, and had that street-food charm. Price-wise, it’s affordable, and the portion sizes are decent. The place is casual, a bit rugged, but has that authentic local feel. Overall, Jok Ruam Jai is a solid choice for simple Thai comfort food, especially if you’re out late and need something warm and satisfying. Not everything wowed me, but it’s still a decent spot—4 stars from me.

The Ultimate Comfort Breakfast in Bangkok! Jok Ruam Jai is the place to go if you’re craving authentic Thai-style rice porridge (jok). I came here early in the morning and was blown away by how comforting and flavorful everything was. The jok is perfectly smooth and rich, topped with tender pork, a soft-boiled egg, and a generous sprinkle of fresh ginger and scallions — pure heaven in a bowl. The portions are generous, and you can customize your toppings, which is a big plus. Service is fast and friendly despite the crowd, and the prices are super reasonable for the quality you get. This place gets busy, and now I totally understand why — it’s simple food done perfectly. A must-visit if you’re in Bangkok and want to experience breakfast like a local!

It's jok (potrige) restaurant. It's not cheap as local restaurant, but this is the only one of the local restaurant around here and it's cheap as foods around here. Anyway the potridge that they serve was awsome, tastes really good. Also I had chicke fried, then was also good. Even their main is potridge, they have many kinds of foods.
